As the day approaches, a strange feeling erupts. You can feel fear running through your veins. You know you have prepared for an entire year for an exam, and after all, it is just an examination, yet you think of the worst-case scenario. When we invest everything in something, we desperately want it to work out. In the last days, you immerse yourself in revision so that you don't miss anything. But even in a moment of relaxation, you realise your mind is occupied by a lot of ifs and buts. You don’t want them to bring your morale down, but they don’t leave your mind. You want things to go in your favour, not like previous attempts. You want to break free from this cycle, happily this time. The dormancy must end; it is time to germinate.
A single sheet of paper doesn’t decide your future. But it does create a question mark over your preparation. Everybody just sees the result. Nobody cares what you have gone through. Your room becomes a place of solitude, reflection, and silent struggles. You have lost touch with people. You become dull; you don’t enjoy the things you used to find fun.
Preparation for an examination is indeed a transformative journey. You lose innocence. You no longer remain yourself. You gradually become someone else, which you bluntly call a better version of yourself.
The day of the examination feels like going to war. You want to be alert in every possible way. Three hours can significantly influence the direction of your life. The pressure is real. Expectations feel motivating at the beginning of the preparation, but as the day approaches, you feel the weight of those expectations. If you fail, how would you face them? Or, most importantly, how would you handle yourself?
Well, no matter how small an exam is, you think about how heavily your life depends on it. At the end of the day, the sun is going to set, and hopefully, the sun rises the next day. Life keeps happening. If the chapter doesn’t end in your imagined way, it doesn’t mean life has ended. Life continues until the final heartbeat.
Life will always be full of struggles. Some things will end as you wish, and many won’t. You have to accept and keep looking forward, because life is neither frictionless nor ideal. You have to prepare for adversity.
Ah... I wish things would go in my favour. This preparation has profoundly transformed me in many ways. It has made me disciplined, hopeful, patient, and much more. The room has witnessed my every mood swing. May the best thing happen for me! Otherwise, perhaps the best is yet to come....
